JAZZ UP YOUR E-MAIL - Part 3

Dear Readers - WELCOME to another Computer Clinic.

You already know how to view all your e-mail in a LARGE window and how to
personalise your own font and font size when you write a new mail (See Clinic 23)
You know how to stay connected after you send and receive e-mails, and how to
create your own fancy Signature! (Clinic 24)

Bored with the same old plain white background? How about some colour!
Bored with the same old text? How about something completely different!
Let's learn how to jazz up your e-mails even more!

E-MAILS - CHANGE THE BACKGROUND COLOUR

  • Open up a New Mail in Outlook Express.
  • Make sure this opens out into a LARGE window (see Clinic 23 for full details)
  • On the top menu-bar, click on "Format"
  • On the drop-down menu, select Background - Color (American spelling!)
  • Click on the background colour you want for your new e-mail. Like this :

Format menu

Background ...

Color ...

Then click on the
background colour
you want

Your e-mail will now have the background colour you selected.

BUT WAIT !!! You can't see black writing on a black background!

Correct! Depending on the background colour you select, you may have to
change the font colour as well.

E-MAILS - CHANGE THE FONT COLOUR
  • Look at the FORMAT BAR just above the body of your new e-mail.
  • You will see B for "bold" - I for "italic" - U for "underline" - and ... A
  • A has options for you to change the colour of the font.
  • There is a little "down arrow" next to the A ... looks like this :
Click the little "down arrow"
next to the A to see the
different colours
  • When you click the little down-arrow, a drop-down colour selection appears.
  • Click on the colour

You can click on any of
    these colours.

    Try to make the colour
    you select harmonise
    with the background
    colour.

    You cannot do any harm
by trying out all sorts of
    combinations.

    Experiment!

of the font you want ... like this ...
And that's THAT!

In order to get the best effects, you will also want to experiment with
selecting different font styles and sizes. Remember, full details on how to
do all of this is in Clinic 23

Here is an example of some of the effects you can create ...

Remember we spoke about a black background - and the need to change the
colour of the text? Well, here's an example of what it could look like ..
.

Well - now you know how to do it!

Have fun ... and start to send a few "jazzed up" e-mails to your friends!

As always ... check for Ad-aware and AVG anti-viral updates.

Empty all the junk from your e-mail folders ... use End It All and the standard Scandisk on a regular basis ... and do a full Defrag about once a month - correctly!

All the information you need to do all of the above - and lots lots more! - can be found in The Library (link at the bottom of every Computer Clinic)

Hope you enjoyed the Clinic

Take care ... have fun ... and Happy E-Mails!

With my best wishes,

Dr. Mac
