Welcome to the second Computer Clinic.
Today, we will use one of the great features of Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6. You'll recall
we recommended that you upgrade your browser in Clinic no. 1 and told you
how to do so. If you missed it

SAVE ALL COMPUTER CLINICS
FOR EASY REFERENCE
Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6 come with a terrific tool that allows you to save whole
web-pages as a single file. We suggest you save all the Computer Clinics
in a single folder. You can then refer to them at your own pace - without
having to be connected to the internet!
Here are the easy steps to follow :
FIRST CREATE A NEW FOLDER ON YOUR DESKTOP -
To do this, RIGHT-click your mouse on any blank area of your desktop. A small menu pops up. Point your mouse to the word "New" - hold it there - and a second menu appears.

On this second side-menu, move your mouse pointer carefully to the word "Folder" and click on this.

A new folder appears on your desktop. The words "New Folder" are highlighted in blue and have a little box around them.

Type in a new name e.g. 'PC Clinics' - and then click once on any blank area of your desktop.

You have now created a special folder in which you can keep all your Computer Clinic files.
Now it's time to save your Computer Clinics. Surf to the Dr. Mac's Computer Clinic page. Then, follow these easy steps .... -
When you have the Clinic web-page on your screen, look at the tool-bar at the top left of I.E.

The first command is "File" - Click once on this.

A drop-down menu appears. Click once on "Save As ..." and a box which looks something like this appears :

Type a name for your file
in the "File name" box
e.g. Clinic Number 1
Then .... |

Click once on the
View Desktop icon. |
Now, you will see all the icons and folders on your desktop.
Look for the new folder you created - "PC Clinics"
Hold your mouse pointer over this folder, and then double-click on it.

The following box now appears. (Good! Keep going! Nearly finished!)
The final step is to click on the little "down arrow" at the right-hand end of
the "Save as type" box :

Click once on the little down arrow.
A small drop-down menu appears.
Select "Web Archive, single file" and
click once on it. |
And finally ..... click once on SAVE.

Click once on the "Save" button.
The whole web-page will now be
saved into your "PC Clinics" folder.
I.E. will tell you when the process
is 100% completed. |

Together again
WELL DONE! The whole web-page has been saved in your new desktop folder.
Since you are still connected to the internet, you can continue surfing if you want to.
When ready to refer to your saved file, all you need to do is go to your desktop,
double-click on your "PC Clinics" folder .... and there, inside, you will see your
saved file. It looks like this :
Clinic Number 1.mht
Double-click on this file (or any of the other Clinics that you will have saved)
and .... BINGO .... the whole web-page opens up and you can read this at
your own pace .... WITHOUT being connected to the internet!
This is also an excellent way to send whole web-pages to
your friends by e-mail. We will be looking at how to do this
in a future Computer Clinic.
