Well you can always change your own computer monitor resolution by right-clicking on the desktop, - properties, then settings... but really Craig, you don't have to!
If you want to see how a web page behaves at different sizes, just make sure your browser isn't maximised. (Where those three tiny boxes in the top right corner, the middle one should be a single square as opposed to two overlapping squares.) Then put your cursor over the bottom right corner where three little lines are, the cursor will change to a double headed arrow and you can drag the window up a little and inwards. Drag it in and out as much as you want. This will show you all you need to know about how your page performs at wider and narrower resolutions. |

Hi Sky
Yer I knew about altering the page size by the method you suggest but all that achieves is random screen sizes (resolutions)? How do I know when reducing the size like this when I have reached specific screen resolutions ie 800x600 and all the other popular screen resolutions, so I can see how other people will see my pages? craig

Use the first option in Sky's post.
That is right click on the desktop select properties, then click the far right settings tab. Move the slider left or right to the resolution you wish to check the page in. Click apply to view, you can except or reject the new resolution. Note it may mess up your desk top icons location, so you may have to rearrange them.

OK try this, I believe in DW you can set the resolution you are coding for.
I use 1024x768. See bottom right in DW window it gives the screen size, that should give you an Idea, how your page fits at that screen resolution. As before you can drag the window in or out, except the size of the widow is shown.

Hey nice one peter i think youre right thats definitely the best way Ive seen yet to view webpages at different resolutions as u say you just reduce the screen size vertically and horizontally until the width and height settings at the bottom right of DW reach the screen res u want to view your page at.
Cheers again Craig PS can anyone supply a list of the most used screen resolutions

Well 800x600 was the standard for web design,
but as screen sizes are larger the standard is 1024x768. Thats the size I code for, as it ensures that those, who still use 800x600 can view the page without scrolling to far. I personally would not code for a higher resolution than 1024x768.
