Default Altering the size of a photo

Hi
I have a space on my webpage which is 650x450 pixels, the picture I want to use is 800 x 500. How do i reduce its size to exactly the first measurements above so as not to distort the picture at all.
I have paint shop pro 8, Irfanview and Macromedia Fireworks8 image editor programmes available to me.

Thanks
craig

You cannot really do it without distortion.
However it depends on the picture if you can get away with it showing.
Just done a test in Irfanview using a picture of 800x500 and resized it.
Turned off "retain aspect ratio" and set the size to 650x450,
the distortion was not really noticeable.
However as I said it depends on the picture content if you can get away with it or not.

The other option is to resize with aspect ratio turned on,
change the 500 to 450 and crop the excess to get the 650.
Thats if you can do so without losing the content you want.
It will be a bit of trial and error I think to reach a compromise.

Irfanview should do that for you

Thanx for that peter ,so basically a combination of cropping and altering the file size to achieve best fit is what we're talking about. Maybe I could also include a border around the picture to assist in achieving an exact fit into the box (div) thats available on the webpage in question.

Cheers

Craig
