Default Bob's Funeral

Regretfully I will be away on Monday at the the time of 'Crogs' funeral and thought this might be in order:-

NAVAL PRAYER
O eternal Lord God, who alone spreadest out of
the heavens, and rulest the raging of the sea;
who has compassed the waters with bounds
until day and night come to an end; be pleased
to receive into thy almighty and most gracious
protection the persons of us thy servants and
the fleet in which we serve. Preserve us from
the dangers of the sea, and from the violence of
the enemy; that we may be a safeguard unto our
most gracious sovereign lady, Queen Elizabeth
and her dominions, and security for such as
pass on the seas upon their lawful occasion; that
the inhabitants of our commonwealth may in
peace and quietness serve thee our God; and
that we may return in safety to enjoy the
blessings of the land, with the fruits of our
labours, and with a thankful remembrance of
thy mercies to praise and glorify thy holy name;
through Jesus Christ our lord.

Many thanks ET

I have found the following pic in the IDF50 files, I believe Bob posted it in about 2004 and titled it:
"Turk - now only a memory"
I don't have any other information.

Bob was in my thoughts today at 11am,
when I remembered his old Avatar that he used for many years.
So as a small tribute to Bob here it is, many of you will remember this one.

Just received the note below from Bob's son:

Just to let you know that the funeral went off alright. Your flowers were beautiful and on my behalf would you please say thank you to everyone. I would particularely like to say a thank you to Lottie for the Mark Twain quote posted on the forum website. This was read out at the funeral service as it seemed so fitting for my Father. This will also be said when the time comes to scatter his ashes at sea. Once again, thank you to everyone for all their comments. I t is a great comfort to me to know that my father was so highly thought of. I will keep in touch and when I find some of my fathers photographs I shall post them on the website ( if I can master this technology). Anthony

I thought of him too, today. I was up at 4.00 AM, on the 8.00 AM ferry to Calais, for a visit to Cite de l'Europe and to pick up my pre-ordered wine (120 bottles!) at Wine and Beer World, ZA Marcel Doret, Sortie 3 A16. Just got back (7.00 PM) a very full day and I'm relaxing now with a glass of Pastis 51!
However, it was very, very different, when Bob was a little way further north, at Dunquerque, at a remove of 68 years, minus a few months, when the air was full of Ju88 Stuka dive bombers, the beaches were being strafed by Me 109s and the whole beachead was being targeted by artillery fire.
Most of us here, never experienced such horrors but in most cases our parents lived through two world wars. We are very lucky to have lived through such a time and we owe it to young men and women of Bob's age, that we enjoy such a privilege.
