I left school in 1952 at aged 16 and earnt £3 5 shillings. (It would have been just £3 if I had been a little younger.) This paid for my bus jouneys into the city each day, my lunches and a £1 to my Mum. Boy was I rich.

My first was 7s 6d.
When we got married, my husband was in an apprenticeship earning £5 a week and our rent was £4, but we didn't whinge about the cost of getting on the property ladder!
We just scrimped and saved and went without until we had enough for a deposit.

£2 10s 0d per week as engineering apprentice (toolmaker) in 1962 - ish. It increased to £3 0s 0d after 6 months as I went into drawing office and had to wear a suit. Good money for 15 year old then.

1961. £4 4s 6d as a laboratory assistant (after deductions - total wage was £4 14s 2d!)
Petrol was 4s 10d per gallon, beer 1s 7d a pint in the bar (1s 8d in the lounge!) and you could buy a 3 bed detached for about £2,500. You could on Teesside, that is.
