Don't go out alone after dark in big towns and cities. Never lose sight of your credit card.

If you want to see what's left of Britain, stay out of the big cities, especially London and your holiday will cost you a lot less too.

I echo what ALF said, but would add a rider. ie IN THE SUMMER SEASON.......avoid London like the plague. There's SO much more to the UK than the capital!

It's like going to New Zealand and only going to Auckland! Nobody in their right minds (unless they're visiting family of course) would go all that way to only see one place!!

I'll have to overcome our aversion to tipping!
Fortunately London doesn't figure high on our priorities. Not that I've got any thing against London had a fun 3 years in the 1960's, but mostly our interest is in the south- Exeter to Bournemouth.

  • What's with all this negative sentiment?

Britain is still a fine country to visit, and London is one of the most interesting cities in Europe. Let me tell you about London!
Where else is there such a range of restaurants to choose from? Plays, musicals, opera, ballet - not just now and then, always. Wine bars, pubs, clubs and coffee houses. Bowling, cinema, skating, museums, and exhibitions. Then there are the buildings themselves, beautiful and steeped in history, or hideously modern but with the undeniable fascination of a car-crash. And lastly, whether you prefer the big West End stores or the small shops and boutiques to be found in all the odd corners, there is nothing that can't be bought in London.

    Warn about London?
    Never.
We should boast about London - capital of Europe!
