Looking through the membership list, I notice that a lot of new members are giving no information at all in their profiles.
Surely they can post a few details without releasing any private information. It would be nice to know which area of the country, or which country if overseas, and a few details about their interests.

I agree. It is especially useful to know their location when discussing local topics/councils etc.

Teddy, it wasn't meant for you in particular, there are many members who don't give much detail.
If you go to the top of this page and click on Profile, you can put some details in there if you wish. It's not compulsory but I think it is more friendly. I'm always clicking on people's profiles just to see if we have anything in common |

It appears that no notice is being taken on the request for at least members county or country, can this not be made mandatory? I know people do not want to give personal details away but it seems some how underhand not to say anything about ones self.

I would like all members to post at least there location and
also their gender to avoid confusion. I personally have nothing to hide or need to, my profile is true to both name and location. My initials are CPS, I am known by and called Peter. Apart from the name of my home, all the rest is there in full. My email addi is shown and my website gives my surname. I have never had a reason to invent a posting name either.

It can be disconcerting when replying to a post, where nothing whatsoever is known about the member, in some cases, we do not even know the gender. Many who are registering now, give no details, and as Boger says I think it should be mandatory, to give just the minimum details, ie, Country, Region, Gender.
But it would also be useful to have details of hobbies etc.

I'm with you, Ashlan, and June - I like to look at member's profiles, see what's there, where someone's from, etc. I put my email addy on mine from the beginning in case anyone wanted to email me offlist. I don't like the idea of deliberate strangers either.

Bear in mind that some of us no longer have a "County" 'cos them at Westminster - in their infinite wisdom - took it away. Stockton-on-Tees is both a town on the mighty Tees, but also a "Unitary Authority" - and they are breeding them in this area even as I type.
I cannot see a box anywhere to state "Gender" - am I missing something ? (No joke intended). I have not publicized my email address as I have had bad experiences in this regard when the address has been picked up by spammers - but I am quite prepared to re-think on that. |
