I agree with you Barry, I have a friend that often browsers on the Water Colour Painting thread and she has never posted anything all year, I can't understand her, but she enjoys IDF.

Thats right Cathyann, I also have a friend who joined recently and I know she loves looking around and I'm sure she will post one day and as Mr Tee says 'you never know'.

Default Well

I was not criticising! As I said I was puzzled. I belong to many discussion boards but never seen one with 1300 odd members of which more than 800 have NEVER posted after joining - not even to say hello? And hundreds more only once or twice.

It was our large membership in such a short time that made me look as I nearly always recognise the names of those who DO post - that's all!

I consider myself to be an infrequent visitor and was surprised to see myself (with only 218 posts - 219 now!) in the top 100 posters out of the 300 odd who do post.

I quite recently saw a bit on the front page telling the members that the site required their participation etc... Dunno where that's gone now though! I think the layout changed just after that!

Default Me too!

And I have searched on both the above poster's profiles for their posts (and PM'd them - with no replies) and see they more or less vanished after posting these queries? Oh dear! Does than mean you will never hear from me again now I have dared to mention this?

This forum does say it is for QUESTIONS? However only one or two actually answered the questionner direct and the first answer was to say "WHY"? She gave the reason for asking.

I have read elsewhere as well as here that these hundreds of members are just "browsing" but the online numbers whenever I am on (which is quite a lot ) do not reflect this - even taking into account "hidden" members. So what makes you so sure they are all just enjoying READING the forums in their hundreds? Just a question you understand - no flaming required! Just that the older members here answering sound so defensive?

It also begs the question why are so many people getting busy with it?

Oh I wasnt asking why they arent deleted. As I see now it was asked. No I was just wondering where they all are because we do have a lot of new members joining all the time so I guess this site is well advertised - I got here from a link on Googgle when looking something up (I spend half my life on Google).
Gb's reply here sounds most ominous
I will drop the subject but, to answer her question - I have been reading through reception posts and questions about the site posts and checking "see all posts" for some posts I was interested in and saw some queries that had not really been answered. I'm taking it that Questions about the club was there mainly for new members. We cant be expected to read all the thousands of posts on here to get familiar with it.
I am now "shtum" on this subject!

dont know if it helps at all Zenebee but no one expects you to read ALL the posts and do feel free to ask about anything you please, just bear in mind that a lot of us who have been around for yonks have seen the same questions arise over and over again and am a bit tired of commenting on them so dont always care to reply .
the thing to remember about these forums is that nobody HAS to do anything eg.answer a posting, a PM or even post on any subject, we cant for example force people to post not browse.
please continue to ask your questions, I am sure that some one will try to answer.
I personally try to greet new members and make them feel welcome but even that gets a little depressing after a while when they just disappear into space and never post again.
But most of us still make the effort.
