Those tight after-op stockings are awful. I had an op. in January and was told to wear them for six weeks! I managed 3 and went back to my doc to complain about them as the pressure on my ankles was excrutiating. He said I had to weigh up the very slight risk of a clot against the torture of the stockings. Moving your legs about, as used to be the case, immediately after surgery is just as beneficial I'm told. I made sure I did this whilst in hospital.

I took the stockings off and didn't wear them again.
