Default I need a password reveal program

Hi all

Slowly recovering lots of stuff from my old PC - however chunks of it where loaded quite some time ago and are password protected - passwords long forgotten. I've got software that's letting me de-password PDF files but it won't work with anything else. Most come up as dots or asterisks found many trial - limited access - and pay for programs but anyone know of a genuinely FREE one?

Roget,

I use Nirsoft's tools for most of my needs: Password Recovery Tools for Windows

Be aware that some anti-malware software, e.g. AVG and Windows Defender, may pop-up false positive alerts for some of the Nirsoft tools. The reason is not that these tools are dangerous in themselves, but that malware writers have sometimes used them for nefarious purposes.

I've used SIW (Software Information for Windows) before - free version. It finds 'Secrets' which has provided email passwords and such. It also shows most everything you want to know about your computer. I use the standalone version - shown on left side of the screen. It might be of help to you. Found at http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html

I'll have a look at that one - BRG's recommendation has revealed most - but not all - as my computer takes exception -as BRG warned - to certain parts of Nirsoft's tools.
