It's for private browsing. There's a description and review of Firefox's private browsing mode here. I note the information describes it as 'porn mode', which I think is not apt. Why is it assumed that people wanting to keep their browsing private means they have something to hide? That's not always (or perhaps even often) the case. Many just like their browsing to be private anyway. But still, he article linked to does say what 'Ctrl+Shift+P' is about.

Read through and looked through Firefox support - I'm not the only one who'd like the reminder box back - not a great inconvenience - but hope a 'revision' soon returns the ability to have it or not as user requires not arbitrarily removed 'cos someone thinks its redundant.

Joelle,

Have you tried shutting down - restarting computer the fault you describe is often due to Firefox not closing correctly.

Second option open Task manager and look for ALL instances of Firefox or Mozilla and close them - then try opening Firefox

Joelle

Glad I could help - I forgot to mention in my last post however that since Firefox 3 there's a 'slight pause' (length of pause not defined) between Firefox 'disappearing' from your screen and shut-down completing.

Best to leave a second or two between clicking Exit (whichever method you use) and shutting computer down or thinking "Damn meant to look at -----" and restarting Firefox.

Since I upgraded to Firefox 3.5 it keeps crashing and closing, putting up a notice that it sends to Firefox.

Anyone else having problems with 3.5 version ?

It could be an extension or theme causing the problem. Check to see if there are any updates for them. If that doesn't do any good, try starting the browser in Firefox's Safe Mode (shortcut in the Programs > Start Menu). Run like that for a while and see if Firefox has stopped crashing. If it has, you'll need to track down which extension is causing the problem.

If the crashes continue even when in Safe Mode, close the browser down and create an additional Profile for test purposes. Start Firefox normally using the new (test) Profile. Import your bookmarks into it and see how Firefox runs.

Always worth making sure that Flash and Java are up to date as well. Also try emptying the cache.

If none of the above works, you may need to uninstall Firefox completely (including the Profile files) and reinstall it. Back up your bookmarks first. It is possible to back up extensions etc from your existing Profile f(using Mozbackup or Febe) and then import them into the new Profile. I wouldn't do that though. A clean start using newly installed extensions is best in my opinion. Just import the bookmarks.
