Mr Harber, who had a beard while he worked at Buckingham Palace, was told he would not get an interview as a car washer and occasional driver unless he shaved off the beard.

It's their company, they make the rules.

When I was in a similar position I claimed shaving expenses against my income tax as a legitimate business expense, first of all for blades and consumables and later for electrical costs and capital depreciation on my electric razor.

Of course, many would see this as immoral tax avoidance!

An ex chief inspector only 61, and the best job he can get is washing cars ?

Does this little tale no say more about the quality of our coppers than about the firm that told him to push off?

Strange as when the Channel tunnel was being built some of the engineers would only wear their turbans so a rule was made 'reducing' their accident insurance However if you join the police you wear your turban with a badge on it same as bus drivers The days of 'you' the employer suggesting 'dress code' has gone

What is wrong with a neat, well trimmed beard?

    In a man, I mean?

Considering my name has been mentioned, if I met with that sort of attitude about beards from a prospective employer, I would just walk out, I don't want to work for anyone with that sort of prejudice.
Hair grows in all sorts of places as a part of the natural human body, both male and female have it on our heads and other places I won't mention.
Just because it grows on only the male face and in general not the female, I reckon it is a form of sexual prejudice to insist on it being shaved off.
    Recycling is a rip off!!
You buy something, use it, recycle it and it is made into something else, which you then have to buy?
Fer goodness sakes you already bought it once!!
Now on Skype, PM for details please.
