Default Cagnes sur Mer

Just back from a smashing week in Cagnes sur Mer (between Nice and Cannes) we actually stayed in Haut de Cagnes a medieval village at the top of a hill on the outskirts of cagnes.

In many ways visitors are deterred from the village - cars are not allowed into the centre and the narrow streets are very steep. However when you are in the know you discover the little village free bus that runs from the city upto the village.

Many artists have lived in the area, the light is meant to be special ,the most famous being Renoir, his grandson still lives there and is very involved in village life, told he often plays boules in the square.

The village seemed all the more special when we returned in the evening after visiting the more livelier spots along the French riviera, such as Nice, Cannes, St. Tropez and Antibes. Travel - taxis are dear but public transport is fantastically cheap and frequent. 1 euro 30 on the bus will take you as far as want to go along the coast.

We stayed in the Hotel Grimaldi a very friendly hotel/restaurant that I picked out on the web, then checked out on Trip Advisor - 125 Euros a night for a very comfortable double including breakfast.

The village has a mixture of restaurants, you can eat out (3 course) for as little as 17 euros - wonderul local menus - these cheap nights offset the more expensive nights in Nice and Cannes.

I have just booked a Ryanair flight to Bari, and back.
£5.99 each way says the advert. I did not know that 2 times £5.99 makes £54, but then who am I to check Ryanair's maths!
Is it not time this farce of not adding in airport taxes etc. was stopped.
Loved the photos Graham. I just hope it will be nice and warm on the Adriatic coast when I go.

TC
I thought they now had to show all the extra taxes in the price quoted

As usual Ryanair is arguing the point, it is never their fault always someone else doing things wrong. Every time I hear people from this company talk I feel I am listening to a used car salesman.

Thanks for the pictures Graham, typical of the area, which is still my favourite holiday destination.

HI ET

You know the area well. There wasn't a meeting on at the time but saw the course 'The Hippodrome' from the road and realised it was a trots track.

I am not really a gambler but I quite enjoy an occasional day at the races like the buzz and the characters, all the better if I pick a few winners.

Never been to a trots meeting, although I have been to a track. Earlier this year we were in New Zealand and a very old friend of mine is a steward at the Auckland trotting track. He showed us around the place (on par with a top UK racecourse) unfortunately there wasn't a meeting on while we were there.
