Default Oil Pastel Trees

Kingy, remember we recently had a brief discussion about using oil pastels? I came across this today, an old doodle of mine done in oil pastels on rough brown paper. As you know, I've never claimed to be an artist so this is quite good for me! It's quite a boring scene but I must have put quite a lot of effort into it (probably about 20 years ago!) and I'm only posting it as it's something I did by hand from scratch rather than using computer programmes!! I don't know what I had in mind when I did it or what I would have called it - but I'm quite pleased with it! And interested in seeing what it looks like as a posted picture.OK?

Thanks, Peter (and, of course, Joelle). I think I know what you mean and I've already described it as a boring picture. Perhaps something added in that area to the left would have given it a bit more of interest?

I like it - has an abstract quality.
Am very tempted to add "that point of interest" but had better get up

I like this very much Terry, and I agree with Joelle you are an Artist...I would love to see it framed..

I don't think it needs anything else painted in Terry, as it may look too crowded....
I think the painting looks like an en chanted wood with the trees entwining each other..
Great stuff... More please...

p.s. How did you like oil pastels to work with,
did you find them messy..?

I'm pleased you said that Kingy because I like it just as it is and the title should be 'Enchanted Wood' Are you going to frame it now Terry?

Oil pastels are my favourite media. They are not messy - and nowhere near as mucky as ordinary chalk pastels. You can "paint" one colour over another and you can spread/mix colours on the page once they are applied, with your finger! They are fun to work with - and someone like me who doesn't have the patience or talent of a dedicated painter can turn out a half-reasonable picture quite easily.

Funnily enough, I was introduced to them by a niece from Melbourne who was over here on a working holiday and bought me some for a Christmas or birthday present.. She is an art therapist [whatever that means!] and can use any form of painting materials.

I know some people like using ordinary chalk-type pastels and I have seen some extremely good pictures done with them.

I liked the comments, but I'm sticking to writing poetry which I know I'm better at!

Good on you Terry..

By the way Art Therapy is colour for the soul...

Therapists work in Nursing Homes, Hospitals and anywhere the mind needs stimulating...when I had my stroke last year I went right off my art because the stroke affected the right side of my brain,...but our tutor who was and still is doing a therapist course put me on the right track together with my Dr....
